Children...

If only they stayed so trusting.

Andrew turned four recently and he's got 'Big Boy' things on his mind, lately.

Conversation today, after an episode of The Magic School Bus (the cartoon):

Andrew: Mom, I want a 'Bella the frog' pet too.
  

Me:  That would be a fun pet.  But, you know what?  Having a pet frog is a lot of work.  You have to make sure to feed it and check on it everyday, you have to clean it's home.  It's a lot of responsibility.  And if you don't take care if it, you know what happens?  It dies. [We're the people who don't perpetuate the myth of Santa, remember?]  I know you'd want to take good care of it, but you are still a little young to be able to do all of this right now.  How about we wait until you are a little older to get one.

(Silence while he thinks this over)

Me: That sound good?

Andrew(smiling):  Yeah, mom.  (Then he runs off to play with his toys.)

He was so happy afterward--no doubt, dreaming of his future pet frog.
